A Young World Campaign - Our children's education cannot wait!!

What do children need urgently when a humanitarian emergency strikes? Food, shelter and protection. Obviously. But with the average refugee being displaced from their home for 17 years, education cannot wait. Children need a place to learn - to be with other children and safe from the threats of child labour, child marriage, exploitation and extremism.
Too often that has been overlooked. But one year ago this week the groundbreaking Education Cannot Wait fund was launched. It is now helping to provide schooling in 10 countries affected by emergencies. Find out what powerful message was sent to displaced children by a Syrian refugee.
Above is a young migrant held at a detention centre in Libya. Sadly, a record number of refugee children are travelling alone. At least 300,000 unaccompanied and separated children were recorded in 80 countries in 2015 and 2016 - that’s five times as many in the previous two years.
Theirworld’s#RewritingTheCode campaignis all about changing the embedded values that prevent girls from getting equal access to education and skilled jobs.
We know that girls are smart and powerful. And that was demonstrated when students showed their amazing talents at the Pan-African Robotics competition in Senegal. See how they shone at the high-tech event.
Darlington David Faijue grew up in the largest slum in Liberia, where crimes, drugs and gangs were part of his childhood landscape. But at the age of 17 he founded his own youth-led NGO to help transform the lives of vulnerable young people.

In a moving and inspiring blog, he tells how he overcame the odds and became determined to help others.
